Spotlight on LaTea Bubble Tea Lounge

We’ve mentioned before that the Lafayette, IN area is unique in the food department. The combination of Purdue University’s diverse student ratio, and the many industrial factories placed throughout Lafayette which bring in people from all over the world results in quality foreign food options. So, here’s a new one for your index: Bubble tea. Bubble (or Boba) tea is a Taiwanese drink. What’s boba? Boba is made with tapioca starch. It’s cooked and flavored with honey and a simple sugar syrup, giving it the springy texture of tapioca balls, making it taste similar to gummy bears. Then, it’s offered in some sort of green, black, or ginger tea base with added milk and options galore on flavoring. Flavor options include: vanilla, hazelnut, lavender, rose, and many more! What’s not to love?

We’d like to introduce you to one place specifically located in West Lafayette. LaTea serves up some authentic Taiwanese Bubble Tea. The owner/general manager is Taiwanese himself, and according to their website, he uses a family recipe. They use all organic tea and make their own simple syrup sweeteners in house. Not into sweet drinks? Don’t worry. There are actually six levels of sweet on their menu: extra sweet to unsweetened. Each drink can be adjusted to preference.

LaTea offers this novelty, but don’t think that’s it. Boba is an option, undoubtedly the most popular, but you can actually add a custard-y pudding or red beans to your drink instead. We are not sure what this tastes like, but at least you now know all your options. They also serve up some snack size desserts such as fried cheese cake, shortbread tea cookies, macaroons, and cupcakes. You’ll also love their assortment of french fry baskets. Parmesan basil fries is one choice. Just sayin’.

If all our hype still doesn’t tickle your fancy on this fad, we’ll let others do the talking. Latea was rated the best spot to get Bubble Tea in 2016 and 2017. It is a clean, modern environment where you’ll find a lot of Purdue students hanging out and working behind the bar. The staff is personal and friendly in a real way, and you’ll enjoy getting to know them. LaTea is available to order through Hungryboiler.com. Don’t forget to sign up for their reward’s program! You’ll enjoy coming back for more. And one more thing: if you check in on Yelp, you get a 10% discount. Don’t tell anyone we told you. 🙂
