JOY in the holiday season stems from overflow of the foundational truth that giving is so much better than receiving. We experience that joy in surprising our loved ones with an awesome-exactly-what-they-hoped-for gift, but we can feel joy in a different way when we impact our community with giving to its needs. This is a beautiful community that we are abundantly blessed with, so would you join us this holiday season in pouring back into the lives of others? Here are just a few simple ways you can do that!
Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child
Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child is a beautiful way to give back this winter. Pack a shoe box with items from this fun list, and then drop it off at a collection point in the Greater Lafayette, IN area. These boxes get shipped all over the world with a message of the Savior’s birth, and supply for basic needs at the same time. But hurry! The collection dates for this event are November 18 – 25, 2019. Click here to view where to drop it off, and here for more general information!
Host a Boiler
Host a Boiler! What a fun way to give back to the community. “With nearly 10,000 international students and many out-of-state domestic students unable to travel home for the holidays, the University’s Host-A-Boiler program extends an offer to the local community to consider welcoming Purdue students to their homes for the holidays… hosting dates over Thanksgiving break (Nov. 28 to 30) or winter break (Dec. 14 to 28). The deadline for Thanksgiving sign-ups is Nov. 18; and Dec. 12 for winter.” Click here for more information!
Grocery Store Give Bins and Food Pantries
Grocery stores around the area such as Fresh Thyme and Payless Super Markets have opportunity for you to purchase meals for members of our community at the check out. Ask when you go to check out what your options are! Additionally, there are many food pantries in the area that are always accepting donations. Click here to find the contact information and location nearest you.
Serve at or donate to the annual Greater Lafayette Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Celebration at LUM Thursday, November 28 from Noon – 2:00 P.M. This event feeds hundreds of people every year and runs solely on donations and volunteers, so this would be a huge help!
